Wings of Spring: A Guided Birdwatching Walk in the Neversink Watershed
Celebrate the arrival of spring in the Catskills with a guided birdwatching walk, co-hosted by the Rondout Neversink Stream Program (RNSP) and the Sullivan County Audubon Society (SCAS). As warmer weather returns, riparian areas, forests, and fields fill with birdsong as migratory species arrive, and resident birds become more active- making this one of the best times of year to observe a wide variety of birds.
The walk will be led by Russ Scheirer, a local resident and experienced birder, SCAS Conservation Chair, and RNSP Nursery Technician. Join us for a relaxed morning outdoors at the Flying Trillium Gardens and Preserve in Neversink, NY, where we’ll look and listen for spring birds while exploring the sights and sounds of this beautiful site. Along the way, participants will learn tips for identifying birds by sight and sound and gain a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that call the Catskill watershed home. This event is beginner-friendly and open to all ages. Birders of all experience levels are welcome.
The event is free, but registration is required. The registration deadline is Monday, April 27. The event address will be shared with all registrants prior to the event.
Please bring binoculars if you have them, sturdy shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, bug spray/sunscreen, and water.
PLEASE NOTE: In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place on Sunday, May 3rd from 9–11 a.m.
