ERODED Banks And Their Deposits
The Neversink Stream Management Plan (2010) identified 58 significant erosion sites on the river, with management recommendations for each. A report is now complete on 47 of these sites, all with larger than 1000 square feet of exposed surface area. Erosion risk was indexed at each site and characterized in terms of management considerations such as threats to infrastructure, private structures, and water supply and ecosystem impacts from the loading of fine sediment. The results of this study will be used as one tool to help prioritize restoration efforts in the coming years by the Rondout Neversink Stream Management Program in partnership with NYCDEP. Other considerations are potential benefits and costs of projects, landowner participation, technical complexity including staging and permitting, and prognosis for project sustainability.
